Security precaution tips

These tips are for your safety, 24/7, 365. They come from Carl Vinson, a licensed, professional bodyguard and security specialist with 30 years in the security industry.

  1. Pay attention to your surroundings.

If something isn't right, or doesn't feel right, get out of there as fast as you can.

  2. Leave work together at night.

When you get off work after dark, leave as a group, not separately. If you see anything suspicious, call the police right away.

  3. Keep protection on you.

Carl's list is mace, pepper spray, a taser or a stun gun, on you at all times. People are getting robbed and hurt for no reason at all.

  4. Stop posting where you are.

Share the photos once you have left the place, not while you are still there. Showing your location live sets you up for trouble.

  5. Bring extra eyes.

When you go grocery shopping, take people with you, and do the same when you get gas at night. Carl says three people. Get gas in the daytime whenever you can, and always have an extra pair of eyes with you.

  6. Cover the house.

If you have no cameras on the outside of your home, put in a doorbell camera or door alarm, and add motion sensors on the front, side and back of the house.

  7. Pack an emergency bag.

Keep an emergency backpack ready for the day you need it, with a first-aid kit inside.

  8. If you own a firearm, learn it.

Go to a shooting range, and if you buy your own gun, learn to use it properly to protect yourself. Safety is number one.
